RTÉ One reveals a huge season of brand new home grown entertainment, drama and factual programming including family favourite Dancing with the Stars, drama Striking Out and major documentary series Keeping Ireland Alive: The health service in a day.

Striking Out

Striking Out is a four-part drama about love, family and friendship set in the world of Ireland’s legal system. Just before Tara Rafferty (Amy Huberman) and her fiancé, Eric Dunbar (Rory Keenan) are to be married their relationship unravels when she finds him cheating on her with one of their colleagues. Her life turned upside down, Tara goes on a journey of self-discovery where all her previously unquestioned values and relationships are challenged. Also starring Neil Morrissey, Fiona O’Shaughnessy, Emma Byrne and Paul Barber, Striking Out is produced for RTÉ by Blinder Films.

The Tommy Tiernan Show

Tommy Tiernan returns with a full series of his improvised chatshow. The Tommy Tiernan Show is a chatshow with one VERY BIG difference – neither the host nor the audience know the identity of the guests until they walk out on stage. The show is recorded in front of a live audience and will include stand-up from the man himself, live music and plenty of chat. A master of improvisation, Tommy thrives on the adrenaline of no preparation and shows that bring him to the edge of a cliff but with The Tommy Tiernan Show will he get more than he bargained for?


As he reaches the twilight of his long political career, this major new two-part documentary series goes behind the headlines to examine the enigma that is EndaKenny, charting the rise and fall, and rise again, of Fine Gael's first leader to win successive terms as Taoiseach. Kenny tells the remarkable story of his rise from obscure Mayo TD to national leader in a time of crisis. Dismissed as a lightweight by his opponents, hailed by his allies as a man of steel, Enda Kenny is the Taoiseach that few people can claim to really know.

News & Current Affairs

RTÉ News & Current Affairs brings viewers the latest breaking news, interviews and reports on the One O’Clock, Six One and Nine O’Clock News programmes, Nuacht Irish language news bulletins and News with Signing seven days a week on RTÉ One. RTÉ Investigates will reveal a number of major new investigations this season, while Prime Time returns as Miriam O’Callaghan and David McCullagh present live panel debates, big interviews, and in-depth reports on national and international current affairs issues every Tuesday and Thursday night. Every Monday night Claire Byrne will be joined by guests and a live studio audience for discussion, analysis and authored reports.

The Fall

Picking up from the heart-stopping series finale that saw DSI Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) standing over critically-injured serial killer Phil Spector (Jamie Dornan), the third series of Alan Cubitt’s intense psychological thriller sees the ultimate cat and mouse game come to a head. Bringing a killer to book is going to take much more now than simply catching him. In the emotionally charged aftermath of the shooting, Gibson’s personal journey to exact justice for the victims’ families must begin with the blood-soaked fight to keep Spector alive. A stellar new cast including Krister Henriksson (Wallander), Aidan McArdle (Mr Selfridge), Ruth Bradley (Humans), Aisling Bea (Trollied) and Richard Coyle (Crossbones). Colin Morgan will return as DS Tom Anderson along with series regulars John Lynch, Valene Kane, Stuart Graham, Bronagh Waugh and Aisling Franciosi.

My Mother and Other Strangers

Set in Northern Ireland during World War Two, My Mother and Other Strangers follows the fortunes of the Coyne family and their neighbours as they struggle to maintain a normal life after a huge US Airforce airfield, populated by 4,000 service men and women, lands in the middle of their rural parish in 1943. Rose Coyne (Hattie Morahan – The Outcast, Beauty and the Beast) and her husband Michael (Owen McDonnell – Single Handed) find themselves in the midst of a dangerous love triangle with handsome US officer Captain Dreyfuss (Aaron Staton – Mad Men). Written by Barry Devlin (Ballykissangel, A Man of No Importance), produced by Grainne Marmion (Doctor Foster) and directed by Adrian Shergold (Mad Dogs, Persuasion) this five-part series is a BBC production, co-funded by RTÉ.

The Nathan Carter Show

Following the success of his Christmas special, Nathan Carter is back with a brand new four-part series, The Nathan Carter Show. Recorded in front of a live audience at the Knocknarea Arena in Sligo, The Nathan Carter Show features the Wagon Wheel singer doing what he does best – singing, chatting and entertaining. There will be musical treats galore with Nathan joined on stage by a host of special guests – from legendary musicians to unmissable new acts –and there will be plenty of surprises as he chats with the audience.

Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip

The B&B owners of Ireland open their doors again to Donegal crooner Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Majella as they take to the road again for Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip. Along with their ‘full Irish’, the B&B owners will be serving up unforgettable experiences, including sloshing with the locals in Kerry, ski-bobbing on the Dublin mountains and chasing waterfalls in Donegal. Filmed in real time, Daniel & Majella’s B&B Road Trip is a nonstop adventure following the O’Donnells as they negotiate the winding roads of Ireland and experience the hidden treasures that only locals know best.

Celebrity Operation Transformation

Five celebrities take on the Operation Transformation challenge, inspiring viewers with their own health and fitness journeys in this special spin-off of the popular lifestyle show. This three-part series will follow our five celebs - comedian Katherine Lynch, solicitor Gerald Kean, Midday presenter Elaine Crowley, funny man Karl Spain and RTÉ Radio 1 reporter Brenda Donohue – over the course of a month as they take the first steps towards changing their lives.

Ireland’s Fittest Family

The search for Ireland’s Fittest Family returns for a fourth series. Brand new mentor Stephen Hunt joins veterans Davy Fitzgerald, Alan Quinlan and Anna Geary as they battle it out for victory with 12 brand new super-fit families taking on our toughest ever courses. Host Mairead Ronan returns to oversee the usual mud, sweat and tears, and some gruelling surprises. Over eight weeks, the fittest, fastest and strongest families in the country will push themselves physically and mentally to the absolute limit, each vying to be the last ones standing.

Room to Improve

Architect Dermot Bannon is back with another round of innovative and contemporary designs for homeowners looking to make the most of their houses. With budgets tighter and clients’ expectations even higher, Dermot will be obliged to expand his role as perfectionist designer to include mediation, builder-wrangling and some extremely delicate diplomacy. This year Room to Improve welcomes new quantity surveyor Lisa O’Brien, keeping an eye on Dermot’s more elaborate designs and somehow making the impossible feasible.

Today with Maura and Dáithí

Today with Maura and Dáithí returns with Dáithí Ó Sé and Maura Derrane broadcasting live from RTÉ Cork’s studios with your daily fix of food, fashion, entertainment while keeping an eye on the national pulse with live interaction with the audience at home, plus Ireland’s biggest daily giveaway of thousands of Euros. Maura and Dáithí will be joined on the big red couch by Ireland’s leading chefs, celebrities and the best lifestyle experts, brightening up those winter afternoons with plenty of craic and surprises.

The Taste of Success

The hunt for Ireland’s latest food entrepreneur is on as The Taste of Success, sponsored by Lidl Ireland, returns for a third series. Two new mentors – foodie Roz Purcell and caterer to the stars Eunice Power – will be joining ITSA founder Domini Kemp and Michelin-starred chef JP McMahon in guiding their chosen entrepreneurs toward one of the biggest prizes in Irish television, worth €100,000, and a chance to get their product in more than 145 Lidl Ireland stores nationwide.
